What is the “Whatever Happened to Jelly Beans” project?

 

I’m a translator and an artist.  I usually translate comics, and documents for clients. And also, make stories, poems or articles and translate them into English ⇄ Japanese with my created artwork. For this project, I got this poem by Jack Zéreau who is a poet and teacher and is studying about the environment. As soon as I got this poem, I created this art project in my mind.  Jack says his poem is about the environment. 

 

This poem is constructed with 13 different characters. I will create 13 different paintings, which are cut paper art, coloured paper art, and paint. I created Jelly Beans colored paper, cut paper art as the first painting for this poem. This is a cute poem, which is very good for kid’s bedtime story or creative time. I was an English teacher in Japan for a long time so I’m sure everybody is going to love this rhythmical poem with cute pictures. This art is going to be one big collection of images of 13 different paintings with the poem. Once I finish creating this art, I would like to share it with kids. If I can, I would like to create a kid's art project too but I shouldn’t dream too much now. First of all, I need to create this art. Also, I would like to make prints as postcards, posters and more.

『何がジェリービーンズに起こったか』プロジェクトとはなんでしょう？

 

私は翻訳家でアーティストです。私は大抵クライアントの要望に応じた漫画、書類等の翻訳をしています。さらに、物語・詩・記事などを作成し、英語⇆日本語に翻訳し、アート作品とともに共有しています。このプロジェクトは、詩人であり、教師であり、環境について学んでいるジャック・ゼロー氏から提供されました。この詩を手にしてすぐ、このアートプロジェクトの構想が私の心の中に出来上がりました。ジャック氏が、この詩は環境についての詩であると教えてくれました。

 

この詩は１３の異なるキャラクターで構成されています。切り絵、ちぎり絵などを織り交ぜながら、１３の絵を創作します。この詩の１枚目の絵となる、切り絵とちぎり絵のジェリービーンズの絵を描きました。この可愛らしい詩は子供たちへのベッドタイムストーリー、制作の時間に適しています。私は長年日本で英語講師をしていましたので、子供たちはこのような可愛い絵とリズミカルな詩が大好きだと確信しています。このアートは、詩と共に、１３の絵から成る大きな１つの絵になります。このアートを作成し終えた際は、子供たちと共有したいと考えています。もしできれば、子どもアートプロジェクトを行いたいと思いますが、今は大きな夢を描きすぎ無いようにしたいと思います。まずは、このアートを完成させたいです。ポストカードやポスターも作りたいと思います。
