I spy with my little eye something that is pink and white. I spy with my little eye something that is cute. I spy with my little eye something that is fragile. I spy with my little eye something that looks like it is floating in the blue sky. I spy with my little eye something that is soft. I spy with my little eye something that smells good. I spy with my little eye something that is fun to make. I spy with my little eye something that is sweet. I spy with my little eye something that is loved by kids.
Yes! Cotton Candy
This art is for the “Whatever Happened to Jelly Beans” Project. This is the fifth artwork out of 13 paintings. The “I spy…” game matches with this art I thought when I completed this art. I wanted to make a little bit funny looking cotton candy because Jack Zéreau who created this poem said: ‘this poem is for kids and adults.’ I used to play the “I Spy…” game with my English school students a lot. They love hinting games because making hints are very creative.
I used white feathers for the white cotton candy because I wanted to make it look fluffy. I collected at the ocean, mountain or park. I’m not sure of all of those feathers’ names but I say “57.” I didn’t know the expression of 57 before. Everybody commented to my puppy like ‘ Oh, your dog is 57.’ It means ketchup right? My dog is a Whippet, Mastiff, Pyrenees and Lab mix. Back to the cotton candy conversation, I think our generation is all mixed, food, culture, history, language, people, job and more. I think mixed culture is good so I want kids to feel free to mix any kinds of opinions for their lives instead of feeling panicking or trapped by systems. That’s why I used many kinds of feathers.
Please watch my art short video too. I used the music by Skaidi ‘Behttar Biera Biera.’ They are Sami musicians. When I saw their live show, I was really touched. The Sami language is beautiful. I think this song is pretty good with my art.
